Class of 2018 Senior Recognition Advertisement Information

  • Senior recognition ads in The Highlander are a cherished tradition. Ads provide a special opportunity to celebrate your student’s senior year with the HP community.
  • Yearbooks are distributed in May before the seniors graduate, so you will have the opportunity to show your pride and love before your child takes that huge step to the next phase of their life.
  • The yearbook is a learning lab for students. Students gain real world skills working with customers, designing the ads and completing a product that all are happy with.

APPOINTMENTS

Fall appointments will start August 30-September 15. Times will be announced in early August once the master schedule is announced with yearbook class times.

  1. Review Ad size and specifications for correct number of photos and amount of text for ad message.
  2. To your appointment bring:
    1. Copy photos on a USB flash drive (or let us know you need help scanning images)
    2. Bring the photos you intend to use on the ad. You may bring 1-2 photos to be used as PLACEHOLDERS only. These placeholders are intended to hold the position for senior portraits to be taken later this summer. Placeholder photos need to be replaced by September 15.
    3. Bring the message you would like included on the ad.
  3. Orders may not be placed without all photos and message for the ad.
  4. Please call 24 hours in advance to cancel
  5. Please no walk-ins

AD SIZES & SPECIFICATIONS

  • 1 block ad: 1 photo, 1 line of text
  • 3 block ad: 1 to 3 photos, 1 to 3 lines of text
  • 4 block ad: 1 to 3 photos, 2 to 6 lines of text
  • 6 block ad: 1 to 5 photos, 2 to 6 lines of text
  • 9 block ad: 1 to 9 photos, 2 to 10 lines of text
  • 12 block ad: custom per organization/club/team only

DEADLINES

  1. Fall orders: There are no appointments for fall. It is first come, first serve daily August 30-September 15. 10:06-12:45.
  2. For fall pricing, spacing based on availability: August 30-September 15
  3. Incomplete spring ads: final photo replacement deadline September 15
  4. Proofs emailed to parents: October 6
  5. Proofs finalized: October 17

TYPES OF ADS

  1. Family ads: up to nine block maximum; guaranteed space in the spring
  2. Friendship ads: first come, first serve basis in fall starting August 30
  3. Sports/Clubs/Organizations ads are done separately through a single representative of the group. Groups may purchase up to a 12 block ad. May be ordered in the spring.
  4. Ads will be in full color unless otherwise specified.

COMPLETE VS INCOMPLETE ORDERS

COMPLETE ad orders

On the day of your appointment, you submit:

  • All photos
  • All Text – the message you will include on the ad, including who the ad is from
  • Payment – We will assist you with online payment at appointment time
  • These ads are content complete with no additions or changes.

INCOMPLETE ad orders

On the day of your appointment, you will still submit:

  • All photos for the ad. Please have 1-2 photos marked as PLACEHOLDERS. These placeholder photos will need to be updated between August 30-September 15.
  • All Text – the message you will include on the ad, including who the ad is from
  • Payment – We will assist you with online payment at appointment time
  • These ads are content complete with no additions or changes.

Between the time the order is placed to the September 15 final submission deadline

  • Ads are incomplete if any photo(s) will be replaced after the ad appointment.
  • Please let the ads manager know you wish to replace photo(s) at the time of ordering.
  • If you are waiting on a senior picture, it is incomplete.
  • If you plan on exchanging a photo, you must include a placeholder photo to hold the spot for design purposes.
  • The majority of ads ordered in the spring are considered incomplete.

PRICING

PROOFING

  • Digital PDF proofs will be emailed to the address you provide at the time of ordering.
  • Digital PDF proofs will be emailed by October 6
  • Responses for edits and revisions due by October 17
  • Check for name spelling, photo location, quality
  • Each photo replaced during the proof process will cost $50

PHOTO SELECTION GUIDELINES

  • Avoid using photos from websites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. Sites like these compress photos so the photo size is only 72 dpi which is not high quality for printing.
  • We prefer to receive the original digital photo file. Only .jpg or .tifs can be used. Pay attention to file sizing. The resolution should be 300 dpi. If a file size says 5 inches X 7 inches at 300 dpi resolution, that is the largest size we can print it. Enlarging runs the risk of pixelating and distorting the quality of the image.
  • When scanning your images to a USB flash drive, ensure the scan is 300 dpi.  At home scanners allow you to select the resolution to 300 dpi. Also places like FedEx, UPS, Kwik Kopy, CVS can help scan hard copies of photos to USB drives.
  • Please no nudity (regardless of age), drugs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms in photos.
  • We will work with you to customize the design to best fit your photo choices. Vertical photos used vertically. Horizontal photos used horizontally. If you would like photos cropped, please explain during your appointment otherwise we will use the full photo.
  • All ads will be in full color unless otherwise specified.
